Supply Threatened After
Manufacturing Plant Fire Apollo Masters, a plant that supplies
the lacquer used to make master discs,
suffered a “devastating” fire at its
manufacturing and storage facility. The facility located in California was completely destroyed, with the company stating that they
are “uncertain of [their] future” and
are “evaluating options.” Several figures within the vinyl
record production industry have
voiced their concern. Co-founder of Third Man Records Ben Blackwell Duplication, a Toronto-based vinyl duplication
and pressing company, wrote that plants may
have to “close or scale back operations for a while.” David Read, a vinyl production coordinator at Duplication, added that the industry is "incredibly resilient” and will find a way out of the "current problem."
