After partition he migrated to Pakistan, he did MSc in psychology from Government College, Lahore, in 1956 and in 1958 he also did MA philosophy from GC. From his college days he was into poetry and used to recite poems in different poetry sittings. He wrote some 30 books on poetry and a number of books on psychology as well. He was awarded the country’s highest civil award 'The Pride of Performance' during 1990s. He died in Lahore due to cardiac arrest on 2nd August 2012.

apni taswir ko aankhon se lagata kya hai
ek nazar meri taraf bhi tera jata kya hai

meri ruswai mein wo bhi hain barabar ke sharik
mere qisse mere yaron ko sunata kya hai

pas rah kar bhi na pahchan saka tu mujh ko
dur se dekh ke ab hath hilata kya hai

mar gae pyas ke mare to utha abr-e-karam
bujh gai bazm to ab shama jalata kya hai

main tera kuchh bhi nahin hun magar itna to bata
dekh kar mujh ko tere zehn mein aata kya hai

tujh mein kas-bal hai to duniya ko baha kar le ja
chae ki pyali mein tufan uthata kya hai

teri aawaz ka jadu na chalega un par
jagne walon ko "shahzad" jagata kya hai

اپنی تصویر کو آنکھوں سے لگاتا کیا ہے
اک نظر میری طرف بھی ترا جاتا کیا ہے

میری رسوائی میں وہ بھی ہیں برابر کے شریک
میرے قصے مرے یاروں کو سناتا کیا ہے

پاس رہ کر بھی نہ پہچان سکا تو مجھ کو
دور سے دیکھ کے اب ہاتھ ہلاتا کیا ہے

مر گئے پیاس کے مارے تو اٹھا ابر کرم
بجھ گئی بزم تو اب شمع جلاتا کیا ہے

میں ترا کچھ بھی نہیں ہوں مگر اتنا تو بتا
دیکھ کر مجھ کو ترے ذہن میں آتا کیا ہے

تجھ میں کس بل ہے تو دنیا کو بہا کر لے جا
چائے کی پیالی میں طوفان اٹھاتا کیا ہے

تیری آواز کا جادو نہ چلے گا ان پر
جاگنے والوں کو شہزادؔ جگاتا کیا ہے
