The connection between sneakers and tv/movies is a strong one that’s existed for decades. From PF Flyers in the Sandlot to the Jordan 11s in Space Jam, to the greatest pop culture sneaker of all time, Marty McFly’s Nike MAG.
But if you’re talking about iconic sneakers making an appearance on TV, Turtle’s Fukijama Air Force 1’s might be Number 1. That episode nailed the insanity of sneaker culture, from the big brands and designers collaborating on classic kicks, to crazed fans lining up over night and camping out for the latest drops, to a big time plug coming through with a pair, to the happiness and satisfaction Turtle felt getting the Fukijamas, it captured the whole essence of collecting coveted sneakers. And actually once Jerry Ferrara, the real human, kept this pair for himself, it became a “life imitating art” sort of thing. The Fukijama Air Force 1s became one of the most iconic sneakers ever, just as they were portrayed on the show. Actually way more so because of just how rare these are. 1 of 1, in the sense that this was the only pair to appear on the show itself. Jerry has told me he’s been offered tens of thousands of dollars for these, never once considered it. Also as you’ll see in the video, he never wears them either. Crazy self control to turn down the money, AND the flex. But I guess when you’re A) rich and B) have the greatest sneaker collection known to man with plenty more to choose from, it’s not that hard.
