Hello, is being an affiliate marketer a respected job? The answer is NO and that is a good thing. One of the best tips I got from choosing a career was from Mike Rowe from the show “Dirty Jobs.”
His advice was to look at where everyone else was going and then go the other direction. The reason this is such good advice is due to supply and demand.
I just finished the book called “Economics in One Lesson” it's a fantastic book and I highly recommend it and everything comes down to supply and demand.
When there is a demand for a job and nobody is doing it then you make more money. If everyone wants to do a job and it's respected more, than you have to work harder and make less money.
The demand for the job goes down the supply goes up.
Another thing Mike Rowe says is that following your passion is complete bullshit. My original passion was in supplements, and I changed it. I still use the supplements today, but it just didn't work out.
I went down some other strange path and it became my passion. This is boring topics like listbuilding, copywriting and emailmarketing. Even if it's a boring topic, you can make it interesting.
I really like this advice that following your passion is complete bullshit because it helps you think outside the box. It's a blue ocean strategy like the book. You want to go where it's not super competitive.
This advice also applies to how you should be marketing. Go where other people are not willing to go. It's ok to be a little different, this will help you stand out and thus help with marketing.
I don't think affiliate marketing is a respected job. It really is up to you to make the job respectable. Having a social media marketing agency wasn't a respectable job, until Gary Vee made it one.
In fact the name or brand Gary Vaynerchuk is difficult to spell. The name means nothing, Gary made it into something.
This is another example of going where others are not willing to go right?
I'm being completely real, but the more people that shit on affiliate marketing the happier I will be. The more people who think it's saturated and there is no money in it, the happier I will. You want to buy into things that are out of favor.
