River in Australia finally flows again after three years of drought

A drought-ravaged river in Australia was seen flowing again for the first time in years.

Photographer Kevin Mitchell captured the deep, orange water in the Fortescue River in Newman, Western Australia, on January 8.

He said that the last time that this part of the river near the town of Pilbara had water flowing was three years ago.

Since then it had remained a small, stagnant puddle but recent rainfall has seen it swell again.

Kevin said: "After so many years, she is flowing. How good is that?"

The Fortescue River is the third longest river in Western Australia.
