Views of French cabarets and theatres of the early 20th century. Some still exist some are gone. The photos range from the first really modern cabaret in the bohemian Montmartre in Paris 'Le Chat Noir" It was created in 1881 by Rodolphe Salis. Le Chat Noir was the gathering place of the famous and the wealthy of Paris. In the high days of Bohemian life in Paris there were around 56 cabarets active in Paris. The most famous cabaret is no doubt the "Moulin Rouge" It still exists today. This is the place were the "Cancan" was invented.
