At least one secret service officer was shot dead in a suspected terror attack on Russia’s spy HQ in Moscow last night.

Three gunmen stormed the FSB service’s Lubyanka building killing a policeman outside and seriously wounding several staff as a gun battle erupted.
Two of the attackers were killed but the third fled and barricaded himself into a nearby block, exchanging fire with Spetsnaz special forces before being “neutralised.”.

The suspected Islamic State attack was launched as president Vladimir Putin hosted an event saluting anti-terror agents across the city.

FSB staff fled in panic and the forbidding former KGB building went into lockdown as at least ten gunshots rang out.

One man was heard shouting “Stop! I said stop!” as the shooting continued.

The Lubyanka attack came after Putin boasted that 54 terrorism related crimes - including 33 attacks - had been prevented by his security services this year.

He spoke ahead of a concert marking an annual holiday Russian for security service staff today (Fri).

Putin told staff: "Today, the clear, efficient and well-coordinated work of the security services has allowed us to achieve tangible success in ensuring Russia’s security.

“I want to thank you and your colleagues for professionalism, courage and determination.”

The policeman, who died at the scene, was identified later as Ilya Fisenko. Two men wounded were named as Alexander Zamchalin and Pavel Anisimov.

All were understood to be FSB staff.
Secret service officer Konstantin Odnolepov, 35, was reported to have been shot in the head and was undergoing emergency surgery last night.

Unconfirmed reports said as many as four people had been killed in the attack which started at a reception at the vast counterintelligence agency complex once headed by Putin.

Gunmen reported to have been disguised in police uniforms opened fire at the Lubyanka’s Kuznetsky Most Street office of the FSB at 6.10pm local time.

One of the attackers ran 300 metres to Vorovskogo Square and continued shooting after his two accomplices were killed.

He barricaded himself inside a building Bolshaya Lubyanka Street where he continued to engage FSB and Spetsnaz fighters before being shot dead at 7.15pm.

A young man at the scene said: "We just walked out of our offices when a man dressed in black with a machine gun started shooting.

"He killed a traffic policeman, and went on further.
