Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee on December 20 defended her ‘UN referendum on CAA’ statement by saying that she only mentioned an “opinion poll”, and that she had called Human Rights Commission and United Nations “impartial institutions”. “I mentioned only opinion poll. I said Human Rights Commission & UN are impartial institutions,” she told reporters in Kolkata after her demand for referendum on CAA and NRC received backlash from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
