Chinese caviar still a world market leader despite trade war and food scandals

One third of the world’s caviar now comes from China, after the industry managed to tap global markets despite embarrassing scandals in recent years involving other food produced in the country.   But while Chinese roe has gained the respect of caviar connoisseurs around the world, the US-China trade war poses new challenges, including tariffs imposed by Washington which have added up to about 25 per cent on a range of goods from China, including caviar.
