Taylor Swift Is Shutting Down All
Commercial Requests for Her Music.
In a recent interview with ‘Billboard,’
Taylor Swift revealed how she’s
taking control in her ongoing battle
with Big Machine Records.
Although she doesn’t technically
own her music catalog, Swift still has
veto power over all synchronization
licensing requests for her music. .
This includes the use of her
music in commercials, films,
TV shows and online videos. .
Thankfully, there’s power in writing your
music … Every week, we get a dozen synch
requests to use ‘Shake It Off’ in some
advertisement or ‘Blank Space’ in some movie
trailer, and we say no to every single one of them, Taylor Swift, to ‘Billboard’.
Although denying the requests
is most likely costing her millions,
Swift plans to continue doing so until
she is back in control of her music. .
And the reason I’m re-recording my music next
year is because I do want my music to live on.
I do want it to be in movies, I do want it to be in
commercials. But I only want that if I own it, Taylor Swift, to ‘Billboard’.
Under her contract with Big Machine, Swift will finally
be able to re-record her music in November 2020.
It’s going to be fun, because it’ll feel like regaining
a freedom and taking back what’s mine. , Taylor Swift, to ‘Billboard’
