Conservatives Achieve Sweeping
Victory in ‘Historic’ UK Election.
The final results for the United Kingdom’s general election
are in, with Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his Conservative
Party winning a majority of the available seats. .
In total, the Conservatives won 365 seats, the Labour
Party won 203 seats, the Scottish National Party
won 48 seats and the Liberal Democrats won 11 seats. .
This marks the biggest victory for the Conservatives
since Margaret Thatcher’s acqusition of a third term in 1987.
It also marks the worst showing for the Labour Party
since 1935, which is likely why the party’s leader,
Jeremy Corbyn, announced his resignation.
Speaking to his constituents following the
victory, Johnson said the results have provided
“a powerful new mandate to get Brexit done.”.
We politicians have squandered the last three
years, three and a half years, in squabbles about
Brexit … I will put an end to all that nonsense,
and we will get Brexit done on time by the 31st
of January, no ifs, no buts, no maybes, Boris Johnson, via Al Jazeera.
Johnson also echoed his policy promises of increasing
investments into the National Health Service,
creating an Australian-style immigration system
and becoming carbon neutral by 2050. .
You voted for all these things and it is now this government, this people's government, it's our solemn duty to deliver on each and every one of those commitments …, Boris Johnson, via Al Jazeera
