$3 Million Health Benefits Scheme.
Among those named in
fraud charges by a federal
grand jury is Clinton Portis,
a former Pro Bowl running back.
Ten former NFL players allegedly committed a brazen, multi-million dollar fraud on a health care plan meant to help their former teammates and other retired players pay legitimate, out-of-pocket medical expenses, Brian Benczkowski, Assistant Attorney General, via CNN.
The scheme allegedly took place
rom June 2017 through Dec. 2018.
The players allegedly filed
hefty false health care claims in
order to receive reimbursements
for expensive health care equipment.
The equipment was then
allegedly never purchased.
Portis — who played for both the
Washington Redskins and Denver Broncos —
was a well-known player, earning more
than $40 million during his career.
