Chinese single mothers seek sperm donors abroad

As the marriage rate in China fell to 7.3 per 1,000 in 2018, more affluent single women are seeking to become mothers without husbands. They are turning to overseas options, because unmarried women in the country are largely barred from accessing sperm banks and in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) treatment, where an egg is fertilised by sperm outside the body.
