'Cheers, mate!' Friendly bird opens beer bottles for couple of New Zealanders
  • 4 years ago
A couple of New Zealanders passing through the South Island were helped out by a friendly kea bird who opened two bottles of beer for the pair.

In the funny video, captured at Milford Sound, Ryan Jennings and Alex Stuart spot the bird perched on their wing mirror and slightly lower the window before the kea pecks off the cap.

Ryan told Newsflare about his encounters with the talented bird: "We arrived at the Milford Sound car park earlier than expected.

"The cafe wasn’t open yet and no one else was around but a few mischievous keas.

"They seemed fairly interested in the 'Mystery Machine' we were driving so we decided to crack into a beer while we observed these beautiful birds.

"These birds are known for their destructive tendencies so we wondered if we could put them to good use.

"No kea were fed, no rubbish was left behind."

These videos were filmed in August 2018.
