Questlove to Make
Directorial Debut
With 'Black Woodstock'.
The drummer will direct the
feature documentary about
the Harlem Cultural Festival in 1969.
The festival, which took place the same summer as Woodstock, drew over 300,000 people, but did not
receive mainstream attention.
It’s incredible to look at 50 years
of history that’s never been told,
and I’m eager and humbled to
tell that story, Questlove, via statement.
The festival featured legendary singers like Nina Simone, Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight and many more.
The film was comprised of over 40 hours of
never-before-seen footage shot
by TV pioneer Hal Tulchin
