Jake Burton's Story

The man who was considered the pioneer of snowboarding died on November 20, 2019, from cancer, at the age of 65. Many tributes have been paid to him, including his company: Société USASA Snowboard & Freeski Although he was not the one who created snowboarding, he fell in love with skiing at a very young age (7 years old) and then snurfing (the ancestor of current snowboards). And it was he who, through his convictions and involvement, succeeded in introducing snowboarding as a genuine sport! The first Burton boards were marketed in 1977. Jake Burton took on the three roles: designer, manufacturer and tester! In 1983, he obtained the first authorization for his board users to use the chairlifts at Stratton Mountain. Burton Europe was then founded in 1985 and employs around 100 people.
