'Joker' Sequel in Development,
Joaquin Phoenix Likely to Return.
The Warner Bros. film recently
passed $1 billion worldwide.
Besides smashing many box office records,
'Joker' won the Golden Lion at this year's
Venice International Film Festival.
According to 'The Hollywood Reporter,' director Todd Phillips is expected to
helm the followup. .
Besides Phoenix and Phillips, 'Joker' screenwriter Scott Silver will return
to write the sequel's script.
'THR' adds that Phillips has also struck
a deal with Warner Bros. to make
another DC origin movie.
Phoenix himself has earned
critical acclaim for his portrayal
of the iconic Batman villain.
He is considered to be one of the favorites to win best actor at the
2020 Academy Awards in February
