VENICE, ITALY — The Veneto regional council flooded for the first time ever last Tuesday just after it happened to reject measures to address climate change.
CNN reports Venice was a bit on the wet side last week after being slammed with the worst flooding in more than half a century.
According to a Facebook post by Democratic Party councilor Andrea Zanoni, the council chamber in Ferro Fini Palace began to look like Waterworld around 10 p.m. local time, as councilors were debating the 2020 regional budget.
In the post, Zanoni said the rejected amendments included measures to fund renewable energy, replace diesel buses with greener ones, scrap polluting stoves and reduce plastics impact.
Regional council spokesman confirmed with the most trusted name in news that the council was flooder after discussing the amendments of the 2020 budget without watering it down with specific details.
According to the council's website, meetings were moved to Treviso last Thursday and Friday because of the flooding.

Venice Mayor Luigi Brugnaro said last week the historic flooding was a direct result of climate change, and you know, he's probably right.
