New sustainable international airport planned for Australia

SYDNEY — British architectural firm Zaha Hadid Architects and Sydney-based Cox Architecture have won a competition to build the new Western Sydney International Airport.
According to the British architectural firm's website, the airport draws inspiration from landscape surrounding the area and the region's cultural heritage.
The new airport will make use of a sustainable design to allow sunlight to enter its interior. The airport's eco-friendly design will also include natural ventilation and water recycling to increase energy efficiency.
The airport will be built in four stages. The project's initial stage is expected to be completed in 2026.
The airport will be able to accommodate 10 million annual passengers after the first stage is complete, according to Zaha Hadid Architects. The number of passengers will increase to up to 82 million once the entire project is complete in 2060.
Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison told ABC News Australia that the airport is set to become the largest gateway to Australia.
