Former NFL WR Charles Rogers Dead at 38.
According to his former football coaches at high school, the Michigan State star had recently been diagnosed with cancer.
Rogers was chosen second overall by the Detroit Lions in the 2003 NFL Draft.
Despite a standout college career, his time in pro football was marred by drug issues and injuries.
The wide receiver admitted in a 2017 interview that he had a Vicodin addiction during his tenure in Detroit.
Pot use and alcohol also helped derail his NFL career.
Rogers played in just 15 games with the Lions and was released in 2006.
After that, he had numerous brushes with the law for assault and battery, DUI and a probation violation.
The Lions have since issued a statement upon news of the wide receiver's death.
We extend our heartfelt sympathies and condolences to his friends and family during this difficult time
