Having a Poor Relationship With
Family Could Make You Sick, Says Study.
Conducted by researchers at
UT Southwestern Medical Center,
the study was published in the
'Journal of Family Psychology.'.
It considered data from 3,000
people collected between 1995
and 2014, and compares the quality of
relationships with chronic health conditions.
The study found an association
between poor extended family
relations and an increased
number of health conditions.
... it seems that family relationships had a more important direct impact on chronic conditions and how people subjectively rate their health, Patricia Thomas, Purdue University Sociologist, via CNN.
Family relationships are long and emotionally intense. These are people you are connected to forever. If you are sensitive to emotional stress, then being bathed in that stress would over time wear and tear on your body, Sarah Woods, Lead Study Author, via CNN.
Authors of the study say
the findings should be alarming
for those in dysfunctional families.
It's our takeaway that if your family or relationship are conflictual or unhealthy in adulthood, it could be very important to work to improve them, perhaps by therapy, Sarah Woods, Lead Study Author, via CNN
