While the rescue operation is in full swing, Surjith's mother on the request of rescue officials, seen stitching a cloth bag hoping that would help in bringing Surjith up after expanding it and letting it inside the borewell. It will be remembered for years.

Frantic rescue efforts took place on Saturday, to pull out a two-year-old boy, who remained stuck in a deep borewell at Nadukattupatti village near Manapparai in of Tamil Nadu, India

State Health Minister C Vijay baskar, who camped in the village and overseeing the rescue efforts, told newsmen this noon that the “rescue operation was very challenging,” as the boy had slipped further into the borewell.

He said oxygen was being circulated into the hold through a tube. Though we monitored the movement of hand by the child through a small surveillance camera till early this morning, no such movement was seen thereafter. The rescue operation was hampered as a portion of mud caved in, this morning, he said. No food or water could be provided to the child after he fell into the bore-well.
