Metal Contamination Leads to Massive US Chicken Recall.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service says the recall affects
over two million pounds.
The issue revolves around Arkansas' Simmons Prepared Foods, Inc.
Simmons has issued a precautionary and voluntary recall of approximately 2 million pounds of fresh and frozen chicken products. We are working closely with regulatory authorities and affected customers to expedite this product recall, Simmons Prepared Foods, Inc., via statement.
The USDA adds that the products were shipped
to institutions, such as restaurants
or schools, in eight states.
The states include: Georgia, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Alabama.
Arizona, Arkansas, California
and Pennsylvania.
The department
is identifying the
recall as a "Class 1.".
This means that consumption can result in serious health issues
or even fatalities.
