In a unique tradition in central India, hundreds of holy men march over rows of women wanting to fulfil their wishes.

This tradition is celebrated every year at Angarmoti temple in Dhamtari District, Chhattisgarh on the first Friday after Diwali. This year it was held on November 1.

The ritual features women who have had difficulties conceiving, prostrating themselves in the path of the holy men who step on them, in a custom believed to bring fertility.

One of the women who came for this reason commented: "These holy men get their special power from goddess Angarmoti and the lady these men put their feet on, gets her wish for a baby fulfilled."
