Exit 'Star Wars' Trilogy.
David Benioff and D.B. Weiss were expected
to begin a new era of the franchise following
the upcoming 'Rise of Skywalker.' .
The pair credited their nine-figure deal with
Netflix as their reason for walking away.
There are only so many hours in the day, and we felt we could not do justice to both 'Star Wars' and our Netflix projects. So we are regretfully stepping away. , David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, via Deadline.
It is unclear whether the new trilogy, which was
set for a 2022 release, will move forward.
Lucasfilm still has a number of upcoming projects such as 'The Mandalorian' and the untitled Obi-Wan Kenobi series
