City bus swallowed by sinkhole

PITTSBURGH — A Pittsburgh bus plunged into a massive sinkhole Monday morning, leaving the front half of the vehicle up in the air.

During rush hour in downtown Pittsburgh on Penn Avenue, the bus in question stopped at a red light when suddenly a rectangular hole in the street just opened up at its rear and swallowed the back half of the bus.

Another vehicle stopped just short of the near 20-foot-deep hole; in the photo, the front wheels of the car are just hanging over the edge. KDKA reported that the driver safely exited the vehicle.

However, good news for those in the area, The Pittsburgh Public Safety Department tweeted that the bus has now been safely removed.

Only the driver and a female passenger were on board at the time. Fortunately, both were able to get off the bus. The passenger was taken to Allegheny General Hospital and was treated for some minor neck pain.

Here's to hoping they get to the bottom of this case.
