A wedding party in east India was left stunned after after a cobra climbed a car used to carry bride and groom, and wrapped itself around the steering wheel.

Employees at a marriage venue in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, spotted the cobra on a decked-up Battery operated vehicle (BOV) on October 27.

They called the Snake Helpline, which rushed a senior volunteer, Purnachandra Das, to rescue the snake.

Das found that the snake was very aggressive and had kept its hood flared up, ready to strike at anyone who approached it.

But the expert snake handler managed to gently pull the cobra out with a snake tong and then put it in bag.

An employee of the marriage hall said: “Luckily, the snake was found after the wedding was over and most guests had left. No damage was done.”

Founder of Snake Helpline Subhendu Mallik said: “While the country celebrated holiday on Diwali, we are happy that we did our bit to mitigate snake-human conflict.”
