China's Communist Party to hold key meeting in Beijing
  • 4 years ago
The senior leadership of China's Communist Party is holding a 4-day meeting starting Monday,... which could to lead to major changes in the party's top seats.
More than 300 party members, including President Xi Jinping, will attend its first plenary session in some 20-months,... the longest gap between sessions since 1977.
President Xi is expected to use the session to strengthen governance and Communist Party rule.
It comes at a time Xi is facing rising challenges from the U.S.-China trade dispute and protests in Hong Kong.
It is possible Hong Kong chief executive Carrie Lam will resign shortly after the session in order to help the pro-establishment camp regain trust from their supporters ahead of local council elections in Hong Kong on November 24th.
