Indian Administrative Service officer Girish Chandra Murmu has been appointed as the first Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. After the reorganization, Jammu and Kashmir has been made a Union Territory and now there will be Lieutenant Governor in place of Governor. The appointment of Girish Chandra Murmu is considered to be very important in view of the circumstances arising in the state after the abolition of most of the provisions of Article 370 giving special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

भारतीय प्रशासनिक सेवा के अधिकारी गिरीश चंद्र मुर्मू को जम्मू-कश्मीर का पहला उपराज्यपाल नियुक्त किया गया है। पुनर्गठन के बाद जम्मू-कश्मीर को केंद्र शासित प्रदेश बनाया गया है और अब वहां राज्यपाल की जगह उपराज्यपाल होंगे। जम्मू कश्मीर को विशेष राज्य का दर्जा देने वाले अनुच्छेद 370 के अधिकतर प्रावधान को खत्म करने के बाद सूबे में उत्पन्न परिस्थियों के मद्देनजर गिरीश चंद्र मुर्मू की नियुक्ति काफी अहम मानी जा रही है।
