Dhanwantari Dev is worshiped on Dhanteras. He is also called Acharya of Ayurveda. They are the doctors of the gods. Dev Dhanwantari is also considered to be the brother of Lakshmi. The tradition of buying utensils on the day of Dhanteras is associated with their incarnation. When the sea was churning, fourteen gems came out of the deep depths of the ocean. Dhanvantari is one of these gems.

धनतेरस पर धनवंतरि देव की पूजा होती है. इनको आयुर्वेद का आचार्य भी कहा जाता है. ये देवताओं के वैद्य हैं. देव धनवंतरि को लक्ष्मी का भाई भी माना जाता है. इन्हीं के अवतरित होने से जुड़ी है धनतेरस के दिन बर्तन खरीदने की परंपरा. जब समुद्र मंथन हो रहा था तब सागर की अतल गहराइयों से चौदह रत्न निकले थे. धनवंतरि इन्हीं रत्नों मे से एक हैं.
