Chaos ensued after a monkey gatecrashed a poetry conference and attacked a guest in northern India.

The incident took place on October 16 in Farrukhabad district of Uttar Pradesh.

Visuals show the monkey hiding under a table. The situation remains calm until the monkey gets on the table, leading to one of the guests attempting to scare it away.

Threatened by the person, the monkey gets aggressive and jumps on her.

The guest, identified as Archana Singh, can be seen moving away in fear.

Organisers of the event and members of the National Cadets Corps (NCC) soon rushed to capture the monkey and move it out, only to fail.

Singh then moves out of her seat in efforts to escape the monkey's attacks, but the defiant monkey decides to follow her to the other side of the stage.

Frustrated, she gets off stage while members of the NCC finally capture the monkey and move it out of the location.

The monkey is reported to have been making a ruckus for about half an hour and during this time the poetry event did not stop.

It was only when it started causing problems that the audience ignored the ongoing event and started laughing about the happenings on stage.

Luckily, the monkey did not harm anyone present and was soon moved out of the venue after which the event was resumed.
