Transgender activist Nisha Ayub has vowed to ignore her haters after receiving criticism for being listed among BBC’s annual list of 100 most inspiring and influential women.

Making her statement on Facebook Live yesterday, Nisha (photo, above) expressed her appreciation of the BBC's recognition, saying it is important for the transgender community.

She said it is a recognition of the transgender community's existence not only in Malaysia but throughout the world.

"I am really overwhelmed and really thankful that such an international network would actually recognise a transgender from Asia like me to be given such recognition.

"I am truly honoured to be among the courageous women who were selected. And I am honoured to be named with all those inspirational and amazing women.

"To me, this recognition is important for the transgender community because it is about visibility and recognition of the existence of transgender people, not just in Malaysia but all around the world. It created a lot more awareness in regards to issues of the needs and concerns of the community," she said.

According to Nisha, she could not be bothered much by criticisms thrown at her by her haters, among which questioned her selection into the list as she was not a real woman.
