Lizzo Accused of
Plagiarizing ‘Truth Hurts’.
Claims of plagiarism have
been brought against Lizzo
by producer Justin Raisen.
According to Raisen, “Truth Hurts”
is similar to a 2017 track he wrote
with Lizzo, called “Healthy.”.
His complaint is particularly centered around the
opening line of “Truth Hurts,” as well as the song’s melody. .
I just took a DNA test, turns out
I’m 100 percent that b----, “Truth Hurts” / Lizzo.
We were never contacted about being credited for
the use of the parts of “Healthy” (melody, lyrics,
and chords) that appear in “Truth Hurts.", Justin Raisen, via Instagram.
Raisen claims to have been
unsuccessfully trying to settle the
dispute privately with Lizzo since 2017.
We’ve tried to sort this out quietly for the last
two years, only asking for 5% each but were
shutdown every time ... Coming forward publicly
to family, friends, artists, and colleagues seems
to be the only way at this point in relieving some
of our emotional distress caused by this, Justin Raisen, via Instagram.
If settled, Raisen promises to
share some of the proceeds with
Mina Lioness, who has also accused
Lizzo of plagiarizing the opening line.
If Ricky and Lizzo’s team decide to settle
this dispute with us, we would like to share
some of the proceeds with Mina for her
influence on "Healthy." , Justin Raisen, via Instagram
