The director had taken the role to an actor he has worked with earlier in his career, in a hugely successful film. Believe it or not, Ajay Devgn was approached to play Alauddin Khilji in the Deepika-Ranveer-Shahid starrer. Ajay and SLB have last worked together in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.
