'Zombie' Deer Warning
Is Issued for Nevada Hunters The warning was issued by the
Nevada Department of Wildlife.
It's an attempt to keep "zombie" deer
from infecting its wildlife population. "Zombie" deer have
been infected with a
neurodegenerative disease that induces
severe weight loss, stumbling and drooling. Such deer can seem less afraid
of humans and more threatening. "Zombie" deer range across 24 states. The chronic-wasting disease
that transforms them into
zombie-like animals is always fatal. Nevada hunters are urged to
have their carcasses tested for
the disease at mobile sampling stations. The CDC warns that consuming
infected meat could result
in contracting the chronic-wasting disease.
