British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has challenged opposition MPs to call a confidence vote in his government, in a defiant response to a September 24, 2019, Supreme Court ruling that he broke the law by suspending parliament. He returned from the UN General Assembly in New York to face demands for his resignation in the House of Commons which reconvened the day after the top court said Johnson illegally advised Queen Elisabeth to prorogue parliament in the run-up to Brexit.
