'Mountain of trash' shocks local worker on Indonesia's tourist island of Bali

A mountain of trash has piled up in the beautiful island of Bali breaking the hearts of both locals and tourists.

Dea Shihotang was out on her morning walk on August 28 when she discovered the smelly pile of rubbish on the side of the road in the Ubud district of the Indonesian island tourist destination.

Dea said that some people who pass by the area on their cars throw plastics of garbage on that corner until it has become a huge mountain of trash.

She said: "I even saw someone drive by and stop to throw away his plastic rubbish bag.

"I asked a local lady that I saw in the area and she said 'it's already for a long time people throw their rubbish there,' it seems people there do not understand or care enough about the effect of this mountain trash for their life, their health and their area."

Dea is a part of the non-government organization Membersihkan Indonesia (Clean Up Indonesia) which aims rid Indonesia, especially its oceans, of plastic wastes that harm the environment.
