Google Will
Change Privacy
Protections for Assistant.
The tech giant announced
that audio recordings of its virtual
assistant will be listened to only if
users give updated permission to do so.
Several tech companies,
including Apple, have recently
been under fire for employing human
reviewers to transcribe virtual assistant recordings.
While the user recording option
has consistently been opt-in,
Google admits their policy of
using human reviewers was unclear.
Rights groups stated
their support of the decision.
Companies should do the right thing and make sure people choose to be recorded. They shouldn't be forced into checking that every company isn't intruding into their homes and daily conversations, Jim Killock, Executive Director of Open Rights Group,
via BBC News.
Users of Facebook
and Amazon currently
must ask to be removed
from such practices.
Google will also add
a new feature that allows
user to adjust the command
activation sensitivity of their devices
