Seekers to El Salvador.
The deal between the U.S.
and Salvadoran governments
is being referred to as an
“asylum cooperation agreement." .
The acting secretary of
the Department of Homeland
Security is expected to
announce the deal soon.
Under the accord,
asylum seekers could be
turned away at the U.S. border,
and be sent to El Salvador.
Part of the plan will see
the U.S. assist in creating
an asylum system in the region.
Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele seeks
more U.S. investment in the country and
a solution for the 200,000 Salvadorans living
in the U.S. under temporary protected status.
