YICHANG, CHINA — Does China have its very own homegrown Loch Ness Monster slithering up and down the banks of the Yangtze River?
Last week, China's intranet was abuzz after video of what appeared to be a massive serpent-like monster swimming in the doo doo colored water of the mighty Yangtze went viral.
According to CCTV, the river dragon was thought to be around 10 feet long and was spotted near the Three Gorges Dam Scenic Area in Yichang, Hebei province.
The footage shows the mysterious "monster" breaking through the water's surface during the middle of the day.
Netizens and supposed Chinese animal experts immediately starting shooting out possible explanations as to what the creature might be.
Turns out the story was nothing but pure garbage—LITERALLY.
According to CCTV News, the river monster was nothing more than a large black plastic mesh bag that had been dumped into the water as junk.
And there you have it folks, the perfect fairy tale ending.
Just remember next time you're in the beautiful waters of the Yangtze, keep your head on a swivel, lest you become lunch for the infamous river monster.
