The number of views for

will now be based on organic plays.
Organic sources include “direct links
to the video, search results, external sites
that embed the video and YouTube features
like the homepage, watch next and Trending.".
The change discounts "advertising views"
that are generated when the video plays
as an ad before other YouTube videos.
Some labels and artists were
previously boosting views of
their videos using growth hacks.
Earlier this year, controversy
erupted when Indian rapper
Badshah surpassed BTS for the
most views of a video in 24 hours.
