Sophie Darlington's Tips: Lighting & Position

Sophie talks about how light and position can affect everything on your shoot and change the entire feel. Before shooting, always looks at the location of sunrise and sunset and check the weather. Sophie loves to film when the sun is behind the animal and when the light is golden in the early morning. Using a diorama, Sophie uses models to show how to set up a good back-lit shot noting that shooting in cloudy weather can still create emotional footage. She encourages filmmakers to think about how light affects the elements – water, dust, flora – that the animals might be interacting with.
