'Day of the Dead' Barbie The limited-edition Barbie
is meant to pay tribute to the
traditional Mexican holiday. Retailing at $75,
"Día de Muertos
Barbie" is available
beginning Sept. 12. The design for the doll draws on the
traditional dress of the holiday. Those who participate in
Día de Muertos often
wear skull masks. The limited-edition Barbie's
face is painted as a skull, and
she has monarch butterflies in her hair. According to Mexican lore
associated with the holiday,
migrating monarch butterflies
represent the souls of lost loved ones. In 2019, Día de Muertos
runs from October 31
through November 2.
