As a cab driver working in Bangalore, I realised that most of the passengers speak either Hindi or English. Being a Kannadiga, I wanted to inspire people to start speaking in Kannada. Hence I started giving discounts to passengers who interacted with me in Kannada. Apart from this initiative, I also offered additional discounts to people who opted to listen to Kannada songs during their travel. A few people did resist initially and asked me as to why they should learn the language for the sake of discounts, but now it looks like people are showing interest in learning the language. My love for the language is very genuine, and I want everybody to see the beauty of this language. And, for the same reason on November 1 last year, I had distributed Kannada books to the passengers. I have also taught some basic Kannada phrases that the passengers could use in their daily lives. As a citizen of this country, I would like to say that we should first love our language, and only then we can encourage others to do so. My sincere request to everyone is to promote our mother tongue while you are in our state.
