Many tens of thousands of pro-democracy protesters march through the streets of Hong Kong Central and onto the US Consulate on Sunday (September 8).

Some protesters carried banners reading, "President Trump, please save Hong Kong" and "Make Hong Kong great again" according to reports.

They marched in support of a bill going through the US Congress aimed at penalising officials in Beijing and Hong Kong who suppress freedoms.

But some demonstrators turned the generally peaceful rally violent.
