Sharapova ruthless in first-round Wimbledon win
  • 5 years ago
Former champion Maria Sharapova showed no mercy to British wildcard Samantha Murray in a brutal straight sets first-round victory. The Russian fifth seed, who claimed the French Open title earlier this month, barely broke sweat after the one-sided match last 58 minutes. Sharapova, who shot to stardom in 2004 when she beat Serena Williams to win the Wimbledon title at age 17, got over the disappointment of early exits in the last two tournaments. Sharapova last reached the Wimbledo final in 2011. -- Mornings @ ANC, June 25, 2014.
