PSC suspends funding for Wesley So

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) has decided to suspend the monthly allowance of Filipino Grandmaster Wesley So following the announcement that he will be switching federations. The PSC will wait for the chess player to formalize his request to be released by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines. So wants to join the United States Chess Federation in order to get better training and join tougher tournaments. But Philippine sports authorities are questioning So’s intent, adding they have always supported So when playing in tournaments that would enhance his skills. -- Mornings @ ANC, June 18, 2014.
