IBP questions delays in suing pork scammers
  • 5 years ago
MANILA - Businesswoman Janet Lim Napoles linked more than a hundred names to the pork barrel scam controversy in the list she gave to Justice Secretary Leila de Lima. The Integrated Bar of the Philippines, however, is asking why only three people have been charged so far. "We are still under a cloud of surprise why is there such a delay. There seems to be a selective justice. We are all aware there are many people involved and yet only three are charged," Vicente Joyas, president of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, said. The IBP is also wondering why de Lima and Napoles' counsel, Atty. Bruce Rivera, had to meet when the Ombudsman has already ruled against accepting Napoles as a state witness. "As far as indictment is concerned, her knowledge is the same as the testimony of the whistleblowers," Joyas said. Rivera has explained he simply wanted to assure de Lima of her client's cooperation even without immunity from suit. The Office of the Ombudsman has asked the Supreme Court to assign two special divisions to take charge of all cases related to PDAF. The High Court wants all camps involved to give their side within three days. But for the IBP, this is not acceptable. "If there are two special divisions, there is a possibility that one may render a decision of conviction and other one acquittal," Joyas said. MORNINGS@ANC, JUNE 11, 2014
