Over 40 people sustained burn injuries after a leaking liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tank triggered a blaze in Parola Compound in Manila Monday evening, barangay officials said. The LPG tank owner, identified as Wilfredo Furo, had to move the tank out of his house after he discovered that its gas was leaking. However, the tank got in contact with a open flame in an alley, resulting in the blaze that left Furo and at least 41 of his neighbors injured. Barangay officials said a total of 42 residents were injured in the accident. The Bureau of Fire Protection, meanwhile, said 37 of the victims sought medical help at the hospital. Some of the victims preferred to do self-medication, saying they have no money to pay for hospitalization. The fire also destroyed some properties, including clothes and even fighting cocks. - Umagang Kay Ganda, 3 June 2014
