Asada takes a year off from skating, ponders retirement
  • 5 years ago
Japan's world champion figure skater Mao Asada says she plans to sit out the 2014-2015 competitive season to consider retirement. Known as the only woman to land three of the complicated triple axel jumps in the competition, Asada said she feels she has had enough of competing. Asada is a veteran of two Winter Olympic Games and took a silver medal at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. She has been tipped as a top contender for gold in Sochi this year, but only placed sixth overall. She subsequently won gold at the world championships held in Saitama in March. -- Mornings @ ANC, May 20, 2014.
